چکیده

In a previous paper' evidence has been offered that not only the intra-medullary spike but also an early component of the following negative potential (labelled Nia) is of presynaptic origin. N1a was attributed to activity in afferent terminals. The present note deals with the site of origin FIG. 1. Cat 11-11-54. Stimulus to internal saphenous nerve. All upper traces from point 1 on the ipsilateral side. Lower traces from contralateral points 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 respectively. Time for inner ring of records: 1000 cycle; for outer ring: 60 cycle. Note that N2 does not spread across cord. of the postsynaptic negative components, N1b, N2, (a secondary wave cropping out from the descending limb of N1b), and finally the late negative wave seen occasionally in decerebrate cats several milliseconds after the termination of the N1 N2 complex.5 The technique employed is described in the earlier paper.'

The origins of lumbosacral spinal evoked potentials in humans using a surface electrode recording technique.

Somatosensory evoked potentials were recorded over the lumbar spine and scalp in 12 normal subjects after stimulating the posterior tibial nerve at the knee and ankle and the sural nerve at the ankle. The H-reflex from the soleus muscle was recorded at the same time. The effects of stimulus intensity, frequency of stimulation and vibration were assessed. It was concluded that when the posterior...

GABAergic system for Ptychodiscus brevis toxin-induced depression of synaptic transmission elicited in isolated spinal cord from neonatal rats

The involvement of inhibitory transmitters for Ptychodiscus brevis toxin (PbTx)-induced depression of spinal synaptic transmission in neonatal rats was investigated. Stimulation of a dorsal root evoked monosynaptic reflex (MSR) and polysynaptic reflex (PSR) potentials in the segmental ventral root. The PbTx depressed the reflexes in a concentration-dependent manner and this depression was block...

Postsynaptic potentials in toad's spinal motoneurons due to muscle afferent volleys.

Although some investigators are dubious of a direct connection between the dorsal root fibers and the motoneurons in frog spinal cord21), evidences for the monosynaptic connection between them have recently been presented by ARAKI3), BROOKHART and FADIGA7)and FADIGA and BROOKHART16) with toad's and frog's spinal cord. In their experiments a single orthodromic stimulus delivered to a dorsal root...

A clinically oriented experiment on the effect of mixed culture of neonate spinal cord transplantation on recovery of spinal cord injury

In spinal cord injuries, direct trauma by edges of sublaxated or dislocated vertebrae and indirect ischemia as a result of vascular injury necrotize the neural tissue. After spinal cord injury, tissue loss appears as micro- or macrocavitation. Accumulations of non-neuronal cells substitute spared tissue and halts axon regrowth. Lack of supporting cells (secreting trophic factors and matrix) agg...
